Kingfisher on the Quay
Although a very popular summertime riverside venue, the existing pub lacked the warmth and character needed to draw in customers on a dull winter’s day.
This exciting themed refurbishment transformed the premises into a popular year-round venue. The attractive bespoke design now includes an extended outside bar area with decking and seating, and small divided internal areas with two separate open fires, creating cosy spaces for the colder months.
The building fabric, electrical and mechanical works began with a full demolition and strip out of internal walls and all existing bar furniture and fittings, removal of the existing front entrance lobby, removal and rebuilding of external cellar walls and the installation of new steel work to the roof.
Externally, we carried out comprehensive joinery repairs, decoration of all previously painted surfaces, renewal of the fascia and full construction of a rear extension and bar area. To create a ‘boardwalk’ feel externally, recycled materials, including second-hand corrugated tin and reclaimed boarding, were used to enhance the appearance of the decking area.
Internally, the works included the formation of a new glass entrance lobby, construction of stud partitions, installation of glazing, construction of two new feature fireplaces and a new bar, the installation of fixed seating, all internal decorations and new themed lighting.
To complement the beach-side effect, pebble mosaic flooring was laid internally, sawn elm timber was used to clad the walls and custom built furniture was created from old fish crates by our in-house joinery workshop.
To provide the final flourish, a new open professional kitchen was fully fitted, including the installation of Altro White Rock flooring and all appliances, lighting and extraction.
